Revenue Growth Rate Calculator

Compare revenue between two periods. Includes a worked example, formula and practical FAQs.

Revenue change—
Growth rate—

Formula: Growth rate (%) = (current revenue − previous revenue) ÷ previous revenue × 100

How to use the Revenue Growth Rate Calculator

Compare revenue between two periods. Enter prior-period and current-period revenue on the same basis and in a common currency.

Formula

Change = current − previous; growth (%) = change ÷ previous × 100.

Worked example

Revenue rising from $20,000 to $25,000 increases by $5,000, or 25%.

Interpretation and limitations

Previous revenue must be positive. Compare periods of equal duration and consider seasonality, currency changes and acquisitions before interpreting growth.

Revenue Growth Rate questions

Can I calculate growth from zero revenue?

Not with this percentage formula. The denominator would be zero; report the absolute revenue increase instead.

Does a negative percentage mean a loss?

It means revenue declined, not necessarily that the business made a loss. Profit requires cost information.
