Build an Ad Budget from Clicks, Conversion Rate and Order Value
· omnicalc.info
An advertising budget becomes more useful when it is connected to a complete funnel. Start with the traffic the budget might buy, estimate how much of that traffic converts, and translate those conversions into revenue. Each step is an assumption, so the output is a scenario rather than a sales guarantee.
Translate budget into traffic
With a $600 budget and an assumed $0.50 cost per click, the model produces 1,200 clicks. If CPC is $0.75 instead, the same budget produces only 800 clicks.
The clicks-from-budget calculator rounds down when the division is fractional. Real advertising prices vary, so a fixed average CPC is a simplification of the auction.
Apply a compatible conversion rate
Assume a 2.5% purchase rate per click. On 1,200 clicks, expected purchases are 1,200 × 0.025 = 30. At $40 average order value, modeled revenue is $1,200 and ROAS is 2×.
A visitor-based conversion rate is not automatically interchangeable with a click-based rate. Repeated clicks, blocked tracking and users returning later can make clicks and measured visitors differ.
Connect revenue to contribution
At a 50% pre-ad contribution margin, the $1,200 revenue contributes $600 before advertising. Subtracting the $600 budget leaves zero before fixed costs.
This illustrates why achieving the revenue forecast does not necessarily achieve a profit target. At a 40% margin, contribution would be $480 and the campaign would leave a $120 shortfall before overhead.
Build a downside case
Suppose CPC rises to $0.60 and conversion falls to 2%. The budget buys 1,000 clicks, the model generates 20 purchases, and $40 AOV produces $800 revenue. ROAS falls to approximately 1.33×.
A higher-case scenario can be useful too, but do not average optimistic and pessimistic assumptions without a reason. Report the inputs alongside each result so a change in performance can be traced to its source.
Review the measurement after launch
Compare actual clicks, purchases, refunds and order values with the assumptions. A forecast of 30 purchases is an expected value, not a promise of exactly 30. Small samples can produce large percentage swings.
Use Clicks From Budget, Conversion Rate and Average Order Value, then check the resulting revenue with the ROAS Calculator.
