Dimensional Weight Calculator
Estimate volumetric shipping weight using package length, width, height and a carrier-specific DIM divisor.. Includes a worked example, formula and practical FAQs.
Formula: Dimensional weight = length × width × height ÷ divisor
How to use the Dimensional Weight Calculator
Estimate volumetric shipping weight using package length, width, height and a carrier-specific DIM divisor.
Formula
Dimensional weight = length × width × height ÷ divisor; rounded DIM weight = round up(dimensional weight).
Worked example
A 40 × 30 × 20 cm package with an illustrative divisor of 5,000 gives 4.8 kg dimensional weight and 5 rounded DIM units.
Interpretation and limitations
Use dimensions and divisor from the same unit system. The rounded output is dimensional weight only; actual billable weight may be the greater of physical and dimensional weight, subject to carrier rules.
Dimensional Weight questions
Which divisor should I use?
Use the carrier and service-specific divisor. The example divisor is not a universal shipping standard.
Does the result include actual package weight?
No. Physical weight is not an input. Compare it separately and apply the carrier’s rounding and billing rules.
