Discount Calculator
Calculate the savings and final price from a single percentage discount. Includes a worked example, formula and practical FAQs.
Formula: Final price = original price × (1 − discount ÷ 100)
How to use the Discount Calculator
Calculate the savings and final price from a single percentage discount. Enter the original price before the discount and a rate between 0% and 100%.
Formula
Savings = original price × discount / 100; final price = original price − savings.
Worked example
A $120 item discounted by 25% saves $30 and costs $90 before any additional tax or shipping.
Interpretation and limitations
The calculator applies one discount to the entered base price. It does not automatically apply coupon restrictions, delivery fees or tax rules.
Discount questions
Can I add two successive discounts?
No. A 20% discount followed by 10% off the reduced price leaves 0.80 × 0.90 = 72% of the original price: a 28% total discount.
Does a 100% discount work?
Yes. It makes the final item price zero; extra fees outside this calculation may still apply.
