How to use the Reorder Point Calculator
Estimate when to place a replenishment order from daily demand, lead time in days and a buffer stock quantity.
Formula
Reorder point = round up(daily demand × lead time + safety stock).
Worked example
20 units per day, a 7-day lead time and 40 units of safety stock give a reorder point of 180 units.
Interpretation and limitations
Demand and lead time must use matching time units. This is a fixed-input model and does not calculate service levels or forecast demand variability.
Reorder Point questions
Do I compare this to stock on the shelf?
Often replenishment decisions use inventory position: on-hand plus on-order minus backorders. Use the measure appropriate for your inventory policy.
Is reorder point the order quantity?
No. It is the trigger level. Order quantity is a separate decision that can be explored with EOQ.
