How to use the Tax-Inclusive Price Calculator
Separate an included tax amount from a gross total using one supplied tax rate.
Formula
Net = gross ÷ (1 + rate / 100); included tax = gross − net.
Worked example
A $120 gross price at an illustrative 20% rate gives $100 net and $20 included tax.
Interpretation and limitations
Do not calculate included tax as 20% of $120: that would give $24 and overstate it. This model assumes a single tax rate applied to the entire net amount.
Tax-Inclusive Price questions
Why divide instead of subtracting the percentage?
The tax rate applies to the smaller net price. The gross price already contains both net and tax.
What if an invoice contains different rates?
Separate its taxable components by rate and calculate each one individually. One blended rate can give an incorrect split.
